Answer

You take 6 random weights and put three on each side of the scale. If they stay the same then you know that the lightest one isn't in the batch. So you have 2 weights left. Weigh them and the one that goes up is the lightest one. If when you put three weights on and one is lighter take off the heavier side. Then weigh two from the three group. If one is lighter than that is it but if they are the same then the one you didn't use is the lightest.
