I am endless, and once you have me you are bound for life, what am i?

A woman with her barking dog enters a room and presses a button. Within seconds, she instantly loses 20 pounds and the dog stops barking. How did she lose the weight?

The room is actually an elevator. When she gets inside to go down to her room, the elevator accelerates downward, making her weight temporarily lower.

I carry my home on my back. I am not rich, but I leave silver in my track.

You have 8 weights. You can only weigh 2 times on a scale. How do you find the lightest weight?

Answer

You take 6 random weights and put three on each side of the scale. If they stay the same then you know that the lightest one isn't in the batch. So you have 2 weights left. Weigh them and the one that goes up is the lightest one. If when you put three weights on and one is lighter take off the heavier side. Then weigh two from the three group. If one is lighter than that is it but if they are the same then the one you didn't use is the lightest.

Do you say, "Nine and seven is seventeen," or "Nine and seven are seventeen"?

Neither. Nine and seven equal sixteen.

Three guys are trying to get across a river on a boat, the boat can only hold 400 pounds. Two of the guys weigh 200 pounds each and one of the guys weigh 400 pounds.
How do they all get across?

Both 200 pound guys go across, and the 400 pound guy stays then one of the 200 pound guys come back and gets out, and the 400 pound guy goes across he gets out the 200 pound guy go back across and picks up the other guy.

The captain of a ship was telling this interesting story: "We traveled the sea far and wide. At one time, two of my sailors were standing on opposite sides of the ship. One was looking west and the other one east. And at the same time, they could see each other clearly."
How can that be possible?

The marines were standing back to the edge of the ship so they were looking at each other. It does not matter where the ship is (of course it does not apply to the north and South Pole).
